Working With VCA Faders In Pro Tools – Part 2: Automation and Composite Coalesce (Video)

VCA faders give us the ability to create faders in order to control groups. This, by itself, will speed up your workflow. Now, we’re going to focus on using the automation options available on your VCA fader. VCA faders can be automated in the traditional way. This means that the entire group gets controlled by one automated fader. But, what if we wanted to do several levels of automation?

With traditional automation, we can automate the tracks within the group, and we can automate the VCA fader. With the Coalesce option, we can let Pro Tools find the composite volumes and use the composite volumes on tracks within the group. This frees up your VCA fader for more automation.

Check out the video below for a step-by-step tutorial on VCA fader automation. Don’t forget to subscribe to our Youtube page.
